Introduction - Counselling, Developmental and School Psychology

The teaching and research work of the Department is carried out by 9 members of staff. We are involved in the courses of the Institute of Psychology, in the teaching of the psychology module of the teacher training in several faculties of the university and in the work of the doctoral school.  In addition to theoretical training, our colleagues also work in practice, covering psychological work from early childhood to adult-specific areas. Our faculty includes a clinical child psychologist, a career counselling psychologist, a family therapist, a sports psychologist, a mental health therapist, and most of our colleagues have decades of experience as trainers. Students of psychology who want to work in the fields of early development, pre-school and school psychology, educational psychology, educational services and counselling can acquire useful knowledge and skills.

Our department teaches theoretical and practical subjects in developmental psychology. In these courses, students learn the theoretical foundations and methodology of working with clients of different ages (from infancy and childhood to old age), understanding the difficulties of different ages and the possibilities of intervention. The other part of our department is the teaching of foundation courses in school psychology.

In the School Psychology and Counselling specialisation great emphasis is placed on learning the diagnostic tools of counselling in individual and group situations. We provide applicable methodological knowledge on the basics of crisis counselling, adolescent counselling,  life guidance counselling, as well as career counselling and the practical application of a family therapy approach. Students will learn how to use a range of educational-psychological assessment tools to assess mental abilities.

The Master's degree in School Psychology and Counselling provides a foundation of knowledge that can be extended in the future by psychology graduates in a variety of fields with specialised training tailored to specific interests (e.g. pedagogical, clinical, counselling, health psychology).

Our department plays a prominent role in both the academic platforms and the practical field of talent management at national and international level. We have been involved in all major EU and national talent development programmes. We provide up-to-date knowledge to professionals working in the field of talent management and talent development.
